Here's what some real anglers had to say:
-
bslow47: "Just Rec'd rod and this is my first impression. I ordered the 6'6" ML Fast action rod...The rod came well packed in a cardboard tube with foam inserts and wrapped in plastic. This is a beautiful rod. Light and feels good in hand. The picture shows a split handle rod and I received the full grip instead. After more research I found out that the 6'6" ML Fast action does not come in a split grip Kind of bummed about that (I later scrolled down to bottom of page and found the chart
). Don't know if I am keeping rod or sending it back because I was wanting the split grip.Update 11/10...I was leaning on keeping the rod so I found some time to install my reel (Shimano 1000 Spirex rear drag I put a single handle on rather than the two handle version. this reel also has the quick fire trigger on it. they also quit making this version :(Anyway, I got it all set up and this thing feels good. Darn good, Except...…………….NOW THIS IS JUST ME AND MY OPINION AND PROBABLY BEING TOO CRITICAL...the reel seat when screwed all the way in, on the reel, leaves threads exposed. When I grip the rod above the reel (typically like most people and especially with the Spirex reel with quick fire trigger) part of my hand falls down onto those exposed threads. Me being 1/3 OCD finds this a little annoying. Exposed reel seat threads are common on older rods and newer less expensive rods. On the split grip version of this rod I don't see this as a problem (from the picture view.) I have a other brand full grip rod that is shorter and a little heavier but, does not have exposed threads. So. I was really wanting the ML Fast action specs but, probably going to send this rod back and get the Medium fast action that has the split handle. This might be a tad strong for my reel but this rod feels too good to not try.Because of the reel seat threads exposed I would give this a 4.5 star rating. Outside of my OCD this rod is worthy of 5 stars.update 11/13OK, I was browsing these rods again and was looking at the M Fast action rod with the split grip. Put it in the cart and low and behold I could get this cheaper than the good deal on the ML Fast action. Sold, I ordered it and am sending back the ML. I received today and the bottom of the tube was slightly crushed. My fear of ordering a rod on line. I took the rod out and all looks good. Probably because of the foam inserts on the rod. Once in hand and like the ML this thing feels good in my hand. I can't tell the difference as far as weight and action goes. So I laced it up and seated my reel. Everything feels great. Unlike the full grip this split grip has a nice seamless reel seat. No exposed threads here.Very Happy with purchase so far. I will update when I get on water. Update 11/20 Ok, I had time to take the first rod back. I took to my local Kohl's (Kohl's has a Amazon drop off for returns) and as fate would have it I found a fishing hole behind the store...So I brought this rod Laced up to my Shimano. This rod feels great, Casted great , Looks great....The only small quibble I have is I wish the reel seat part of the handle was maybe a inch longer (That's what she said). Definitely not a deal breaker though. I have average size hands and when gripping the rod with the real my hand would slightly be off the handle. Not as annoying as the single grip one I just sent back. I know this is being picky but Its my honest review.” -
