Hey fellow cat lovers! Have you ever wished you could give your cat a pool without having to worry about your furniture getting soaked? Well, you're in luck! The BABORUI Upgraded Water Sensory Playmat for Cats is here to save the day (or at least your furniture)! This rectangle-shaped water mat promises to provide endless hours of entertainment for your cat, but is it really the ultimate cat playmat?
Let's dive in and see what the hype is all about!
First Impressions:
When this bad boy arrived, I was excited! The packaging was cute and compact, and the mat itself felt sturdy. I couldn't wait to see my cat's reaction.
Filling It Up:
One of the first things I noticed was that the instructions weren't exactly clear. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to fill the mat with both water and air. (Tip: Watch a YouTube video! It's way easier that way.)
The First Play Session:
The moment of truth! I placed the mat on the floor and my cat came over cautiously. She sniffed it, then tentatively stepped on it. Her eyes widened! She was mesmerized by the little fishies that moved with the water. It was like watching a cat version of "Finding Nemo"! For a few minutes, she had a blast batting at the water and chasing the fishies.
The Downside:
Here's where things get a bit messy. After only a few hours, the mat sprung a leak. Yep, you read that right, a leak! I was heartbroken! My cat was having so much fun, and now the whole thing was a soggy mess.
What Real Cat Owners Are Saying:
I checked out the reviews on Amazon, and it seems like I'm not the only one who's experienced this issue. Here's what some other owners had to say:
-
Traci Smith: "The minute I filled it up and closed the water valve it was leaking!! Totally defective!! Couldn’t even try it out. The lamest part is that the company won’t just refund me. They want me to return it first!!" (Ouch! Sounds like this company needs some work on their customer service.)
-
NANCY WINDHAM: "Gave as a gift and my granddaughter says the cats love the interaction!" (This is a good sign, but doesn't tell us anything about the durability of the mat.)
-
Allison: "I can’t tell if my cat is just not interested or afraid of ir repelled by the strong unpleasant smell of the plastic/vinyl.Sure would have been nice to have at least a brief information on how to fill both water and air but I’m fumbling through it. Hoping not to overfill and cause a rupture! update- I didn’t even over fill it- the fishies were almost immobile but it leaked. I’m just going to toss it. Customer service is almost non existent since it went 99% AI." (Seems like the quality control is lacking, and customer service is a nightmare!)
-
Beth Mitchell: "I’m not sure what I expected with the splash pad, but whatever it was I am disappointed. When filled with water the little pieces inside the splash pad didn’t really move. And after two times and my cat playing with it, she punctured a hole in it, and it was unusable." (Another disappointed customer with a leaky mat!)
-
Robert L Vecchiolli: "In concept this is a GREAT product. We have 15 cats and their initial reaction to this product was apprehension, but after a day or 2 they were warmed up to the product. UNFORTUNATELY, as you might have already guessed, the product did not last 24 hours after they started playing with it. It received a puncture in the water bladder and the containment ring. On the upside, it comes with a patching kit. Holes patched and refilled with water and air; less than 4 hours before it was punctured again. The product did come with claw trimmers, but I don’t have time to trim the claws of 15 cats, especially since some of them become violent when you try to hold them long enough to force them into a claw trimming. I would give this 5 stars for concept, but it lacks the durability needed for cats with untrimmed claws. As is, I have to recommend "DO NOT BUY", but with a huge caveat: If you are able to trim your cat’s claws, your cat will love this after they warm up to it." (This reviewer highlights the biggest problem: the durability! This mat is not built to last with cats with sharp claws. )
The Verdict:
I'm sorry to say, this product did not live up to the hype. It's a fun idea, and my cat enjoyed playing with it, but it was just too flimsy and the leaking was a deal-breaker. The fact that customer service doesn't seem to be helpful either doesn't make me want to give this product another chance.
Bottom Line:
If you're looking for a durable and long-lasting cat toy, this is not the product for you. But if you're willing to take a chance and your cat is a gentle player, then you might want to give it a try. Just be prepared to deal with potential leaks!
