Ring Alarm Pro 8-Piece Kit: The Ultimate Home Security System (But With a Catch!)

Hey there, security-conscious friends! Today we're diving deep into the world of home security with the Ring Alarm Pro 8-Piece Kit. This beast boasts built-in eero Wi-Fi 6 and a free Ring Protect Pro trial—talk about a powerhouse! But before you rush to click "Add to Cart," let's unpack this bad boy and see if it's the perfect fit for your home.

Is it worth it? Well, that's a tricky question. As with anything in life, it depends on your needs and what you're willing to compromise on. But let me tell you, this thing has some serious potential, and we'll get into the nitty-gritty details to help you decide.

First, the Facts

The Ring Alarm Pro 8-Piece Kit is currently rocking a 4.4-star rating on Amazon, with tons of reviews. It seems like people are loving this system for its user-friendliness, sleek design, and impressive integration with other smart home gadgets. But, let's be real—there's always a catch, and we'll get to that in a sec.

What are folks saying?

  • "Mr J M" [Edit March 2023] Ring has now fixed the wifi issue that was causing the issue mentioned below. Ring has been very responsive to the wifi issue, kudos to them for addressing the issue and release a fix. Changing the rating.[Original Post] The integrated WiFi in the Ring Alarm Pro is terrible and completely ineffective. The range is poor and the connectivity is inconsistent. If you have many devices or are doing real time video streaming or gaming, be careful. I have now disconnected the Ring Alarm and am using a 5 year old wifi/router and getting much better performance.I called Ring technical support and they said that the router/wifi is not to be used with many connected devices. That would be fine if could use the Ring device as a second network, or event better yet, disable it. But, you can't disable the wifi and you need to use it as your primary wifi. So, you are forced to use their terrible wifi. I tried returning/exchanging the Alarm Pro basestation for just the regular one without the integrated wifi. Ring declined and told me to call Amazon. An extremely frustrating hour with Amazon support with three handoffs to other agents (and having to repeat the request) got me nowhere. I am now using the Alarm Pro wifi in Bridge mode with only one computer and the Ring devices connected to it. What a waste. The alarm itself is good. The setup for all the devices is easy and the app is nicely done.
  • "D.N." As a gun smith, an alarm system is mandated by the ATF and the State Police. This worked great nsors would disconnects then installed. Monitoring went well. After a few months sensors would disconnect. It changed it's own settings regarding the wifi settings and my cellular cattier. I use Verizon but now Ring says I use ATT. It turned of the call alert. I turned it on and later it turned it off. Extremely disappointed. Sadly it is now ready for the trash can as I can no longer rely on it.UPDATE: It seems that Ring monitors their reviews. I spent some time on the phone with tech support and she was great. Handled all of the problems remotely, answered all of my questions and now the system works as it should. there is no numbers to call on their web site so I did some digging. Worth it.
  • "Christopher Pogue" Ring really thought this product through. My old alarm company wanted to charge me a fortune just to come and take a look, so I gave Ring a shot.Setting it up was easy. I could even use some of my old Z-Wave stuff, like my keypad lock, thermostats, and garage door. I've got three cameras now, and I'm thinking about getting more. This smart home thing is like a hobby now. It's fun to add new gadgets and know that Ring's got my place covered. The quality is great, you can tell. The motion detection is on point; I have a dog, and I have the sensitivity set to low with no problems yet. It looks sleek and the size is good. The performance is smooth and fast.
  • "kristian suson" The media could not be loaded. I have another ring alarm system at my office, and it’s wonderful. Everything connects quickly and easily, and the ring alarm app is very intuitive. My issue with the ring alarm PRO, is that the system is required to replace your current router. I’m not a big fan of mesh wifi systems, but I decided to give it a try. EERO has many good reviews, but the biggest issue with mesh systems is the device switching between nodes. The eero router is missing some pro options.Another issue is the expectation that Alexa/ring would connect with everything else much easier. There is A LOT of fiddling with settings and groups and naming to get all the security pieces such as locks and cameras just right.Still a buy, but Amazon, please let the router work as a bridge and not replace the router.
  • "Fabio Sabai" It's really easy to install. No tech skills needed. Instructions are clear, what is rare nowadays. The Ring Alarm Pro comes with a built-in eero Wi-Fi 6 router. It works well, but coverage could be better. You can always buy extenders, but they are not cheap. I also miss some features, like setting a fixed Wi-Fi channel for 2.4 GHz and 5 Ghz (one of my TVs only work on specific channels, so I had to use an Ethernet cable instead). The alarm part is good and integrates with a lot of other devices, like the Ring doorbell and cameras. I haven't tried the Ring Protect Pro yet, but it looks promising.

As you can see, there's a lot of love for the Ring Alarm Pro, but some users have had issues with the built-in eero router, particularly with coverage and connectivity.

Let's Talk Features

This kit is packed with goodies:

  • Built-in eero Wi-Fi 6 Router: This promises super-fast internet speeds and seamless coverage throughout your home.
  • Ring Protect Pro: A 30-day free trial gives you access to features like 24/7 professional monitoring, cloud recording for your Ring cameras, and more.
  • Easy Setup: Ring's app walks you through the setup process step-by-step, so even tech newbies can get things rolling.
  • Smart Home Integration: Connect to your favorite smart home devices, like Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and others.

The Pros

  • Awesome Features: The Ring Alarm Pro packs a punch when it comes to security and connectivity features.
  • Seamless Integration: It seamlessly integrates with other Ring devices and smart home platforms, creating a truly smart home experience.
  • User-Friendly: The app is easy to use, making it accessible to everyone.

The Cons

  • eero Router Issues: Some users have reported problems with the eero router's range and performance.
  • Forced Router Replacement: You can't disable the eero router or use it as a bridge, meaning you'll have to swap out your existing router.

Here's the deal:

The Ring Alarm Pro is a fantastic home security system, but the built-in eero router might be a deal-breaker for some. If you have a large home or tons of devices, you might want to consider a more robust router solution. If you're looking for a super-simple setup and want a system that integrates well with other smart home devices, the Ring Alarm Pro is definitely worth checking out.

Overall

The Ring Alarm Pro 8-Piece Kit offers a comprehensive home security solution with tons of potential. While the eero router might not be the best fit for everyone, the system's ease of use, great features, and integration capabilities make it a solid choice for many homeowners. If you're looking for the ultimate security system, be sure to weigh the pros and cons before making your decision.
