You can also freeze wet dog food and use that in the center if you don’t mind the slobbery mess that comes with doing that. This is nice because it is a bowl first of all. The ball shape or cylinder shape I should say is let continuously roll around like a typical dog toy. However, upon unscrew the top you’ll see that there is an insert for frozen cubes. We used beef broth in our frozen cubes for a little extra temptation. The end of the ice cube sticks out of the ball, just enough for them to be able to lick it, Which increases its longevity. The ball is rubber and highly durable so she has yet to chew through it, which is amazing. I would definitely recommend this for anyone looking to entertain their dog and give them a good treat at the same time."

The instructions call for freezing juices and soups. I would not suggest following that guidance unless you don't mind cleaning up the melted liquid. I've been using frozen peanut butter and soft dog food. Less mess when done. The food mold is silicon, and once frozen, the treat can be easily removed and inserted into the ball. The top half of the ball unscrew but can be a bit sticky. The manufacturer recommends using cooking oil on the threads, but I didn't find it necessary because a "key" is provided that inserts into the opposite side making it easier to open the ball (I just used a spoon). You can use kibble as a treat, but the main opening is too large and would dump the treats quickly. Similar items on Amazon include a "plug" to close the opening. It would be a nice feature for this product to incorporate. Some reviews note that hard chewing dogs will destroy this toy (in fact the listing says it is not suitable for hard chewers). That's scary. This thing is similar to a Kong, but a little softer. My dog BoBo is 80 lbs, and could be considered a hard chewer, but so far has not put a dent in the toy.
