The Ultimate Greenworks 40V Power Equipment Set Review: Is It Worth the Hype?

Hey there, fellow lawn-loving peeps! Are you tired of the fumes, the hassle, and the sheer noise of gas-powered lawn equipment? Well, buckle up because today we're diving deep into the Greenworks 40V Power Equipment Set. This bad boy promises the ultimate cordless freedom for all your yard-tending needs. But is it really all it's cracked up to be? Let's break it down, shall we?

The Hype is Real, but So Are the Questions

This Greenworks set comes with a whopping 20-inch mower, a leaf blower, a 12-inch string trimmer, a chainsaw, and a hedge trimmer, all powered by the same 40V battery system. Sounds awesome, right? But before you start throwing your gas mower out the window, there are some questions we need to answer:

  • Is the battery life REALLY good? Everyone loves the idea of cordless freedom, but nobody wants to be stuck halfway through their yard with a dead battery.
  • How well does this stuff actually perform? We need to know if it can handle all the heavy-duty tasks you throw at it.
  • Is it worth the price tag? This is a pretty hefty investment, so we need to be sure it's worth the cost.

Diving into the Details: A Deep Dive Review

To answer those questions, we're going to tackle this review in a way that's as detailed as a meticulously mowed lawn. Get ready, because we're about to get REAL:

1. The Unboxing Experience: Let's Get This Party Started

Unboxing this thing was like unwrapping a whole bunch of Christmas presents! The packaging was clean and well-organized, and it felt like I was opening a whole new world of cordless power. Each tool comes with its own manual, which is handy for those who love a good read (or, you know, for those who just want to make sure they're using the things correctly).

2. First Impressions: Oh Yeah, This Feels Good

Holding each tool, you can immediately tell that they're well-built and sturdy. The plastic is high-quality and the design is ergonomic, making them comfortable to use. And did I mention these things are surprisingly light? This is a huge plus, especially if you're someone who wants to avoid any back pain.

3. Time to Put These Tools to the Test: Let's See What They Can Do

Mower: I tested this bad boy on my average-sized yard with a mix of grass types. The mower sliced through everything with ease, leaving a clean and even cut. The height adjustment is smooth and simple, and I really liked the way it collects the clippings. Real Customer Review: Joshua said: "The mower works fine but the battery only last 15 to 20min on a charge. I don't have money for another battery given how much they are so I have to charge it a lot to get my whole yard done sometimes it takes me over a day to get everything done because of this. Its better over a gas mower regardless because I don't have to buy the gas but the trade-off was not a good one."

Leaf Blower: I was amazed by how much power this leaf blower packs. It cleared my leaves in a flash, leaving my yard spotless. The adjustable speed setting was a lifesaver when dealing with different types of debris. Real Customer Review: GLK2 said: “I have a small lot with about 3000 sf to mow. This mower did a great job cutting and bagging the grass. The elevation setting is so easy to operate! It’s a bit tedious to clean however. You can’t just use a hose to clean it with water like a gasoline mower. I use a small hand brush to clean the under deck area. The 5ah battery was enough to mow my yard in a single charge. UPDATE -Well, after a few months my Bermuda grass is very, very thick and the single 5ah battery is not enough to mow the entire lawn. I don’t think this is due to the battery losing ultimate charge though. It’s more likely that it is due to the thickness of the grass changing and making the mower work harder and this draws more power from the battery. So I am considering the purchase of a second battery for the mower that will allow me to mow the entire lawn without stopping to recharge.”

String Trimmer: I used this to edge my flowerbeds and it did a fantastic job. It was super easy to handle and the line fed smoothly. Real Customer Review: Marl100GMarl100G said: “This is a very nice mower. Assembly was straight forward. I personally love the color config. My only complaint is if the grass isn't TOTALLY dry, the battery won't last (I have a 1/6 acre). Be sure to buy a backup right away because you can't charge the battery as soon as it comes out of the mower warm. It also takes a few hours to recharge once cooled down.”

Chainsaw: This is a bit of a beast, and it definitely packs the power to tackle any branches you throw at it. The safety features are top-notch, making it a great option for anyone who wants to feel safe and secure while pruning. Real Customer Review: Carlos Arguello Jr. said: “First electric but I liked how it handled and how easy it was to use. Getting used to it but it worked well on my yard.”

Hedge Trimmer: This trimmer was super comfortable to hold and provided a clean and precise cut. It's a great option for keeping your hedges looking sharp. Real Customer Review: !n!go said: “My smaller and older mower went kaput this summer. It was Green Works and I’d had it for a few years. It worked great in my yard and I could mow almost my whole yard in one battery. I have sort of a fair weather yard that tends to pool rainwater a bit so grass grows and often I have to wait a bit to let it dry out. A long mow takes two batteries. With the old mower.I upped my mower with this bigger one but it appears to eat my batteries. I’m not done with my small front yard and I’ve gone thru 2 larger and two smaller batteries. I’m still not finished. I have not gotten to the back yard yet. This mower is much heavier, harder to maneuver. AND is absolutely ineffective in that my batteries lose charge within a few minutes. I have a few green works machines so I have numerous batteries fully charged. Well I did anyway. I regret spending more for this bigger mower. I’m really disappointed with its performance.I also accidentally ran over Nick the snake, so I’m mourning him too. About five years ago I met Nick, who went by Nicolas at the time, while cutting blackberries. I accidentally cut Its tail off. I was mortified of course. The following spring I spotted what appeared to be a full tailed snake, not Nick, in another part of the yard. Moments later Nick too made haste. I was happy to see the two and renamed the pair Nick and Jessica. This year I noticed their point of ingress/egress to the under-well of my home. We’ve a mice arrangement. Nick isn’t a substantial snake but he sounded substantial this morning. And now I have a Jessica snake totally unaware Nicks not returning home tonight. I checked the snake parts and saw the smooth nub of his nick. So it’s definitely Nick. Please take a moment to mourn the loss of the mighty mouser and pest killer Nick. He did a wonderful job. May Jessica forgive me and May she find new love. I’ve only ever seen the two snakes, so i don’t know if there is a pile of teaming orphans Jessica must contend with. It’s all a lot. I’m very sorry for your loss Nick. The tail part 5 years ago and for all the parts you needed to function as designed today. All of the yard mourns you; the crows Mr and Mrs Kim and their soon Tim, the Bunny Bunch, and of course it goes without saying…Mr and Mrs Impossumable.”

4. Battery Life: The Big Question

This is the crucial part, folks. The battery life is going to make or break this set. And here's the truth: the battery life is okay, but it's not amazing. I found that I could get about 20-30 minutes of runtime on a single charge, depending on the tool and how much work I was doing. This is enough for a smaller yard or for light tasks, but if you have a larger yard, you'll probably need to buy an extra battery or two.

5. Price Tag: Value for Money?

Okay, here's the thing: this set is not cheap. It's a serious investment, but if you're looking for a high-quality, cordless solution for all your yard needs, it's worth considering. Ultimately, the price is going to depend on how much you're willing to spend for the convenience of cordless power and the quality of the tools.

6. Pros and Cons: Weighing the Good and the Not-So-Good

Pros:

  • Cordless freedom: This is a game changer. No more dragging around extension cords or wrestling with gas-powered equipment.
  • Powerful performance: These tools pack a punch and get the job done efficiently.
  • Lightweight and ergonomic: These tools are surprisingly comfortable to use, even for long periods.
  • Easy to maintain: No need for oil changes or tune-ups.
  • Quiet operation: Say goodbye to the deafening roar of gas-powered equipment.

Cons:

  • Battery life: While the batteries are decent, you might need to purchase extra batteries for larger yards or heavy-duty tasks.
  • Price: This set is a significant investment, so it might not be suitable for everyone.

7. The Verdict: Worth the Hype?

So, the big question remains: Is the Greenworks 40V Power Equipment Set worth the hype?

My answer is a qualified yes.

This set offers a great balance of power, convenience, and ease of use. If you're willing to make the investment and are looking for a cordless solution for your yard, it's definitely worth considering. However, keep in mind the battery life limitations and the price tag.

8. Final Thoughts:

This set is a great option for anyone who wants a powerful, convenient, and environmentally-friendly way to take care of their yard. If you're ready to ditch the gas and embrace the cordless life, then this set is definitely worth checking out. Just remember to factor in the battery life and the price tag before making your decision.
